Boats of hope

02 October, 2017

Schools from all over the island of Ireland are invited to launch boats to mark the 30th anniversary of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 October 2017.

The boat launch is a joint project of the INTO Global Citizenship Schools Network and the Irish 17 October Committee, and will take place on the River Liffey, Dublin.

A total of 17 schools (or other groups made up of children and young people) are being sought to get involved. Each will build a boat symbolising the hopes generated by the 17 Global Goals, which were agreed by world leaders in 2015 to end poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change.

These boats should be made of recyclable material, carry positive messages of hope related to the Global Goals and of course be able to float!

The launch of the boats will be streamed online, ensuring that schools all over Ireland can learn about the world’s fight against global poverty.

To get involved, please click here to go to the event’s homepage and follow the instructions to download the activity kit.
