International Earth Day 2021
22 April, 2021
The theme of International Earth Day 2021 is 'Restore our Earth".
By holding this day each year, it gives us the opportunity to join together in the fight against the global crisis and take collective action that will hopefully repair the earth and our eco-systems.
To help educate young people, the Centre for Global Education and Global Learning Schools NI has created a dedicated video that will support Primary Key Stage 1 pupils in learning how and why our earth is struggling and what we can do to help.
Watch the video, and then explore its content, following through with actions about the difference we can make - either as a whole class or in smaller groups.
We've selected a variety of audio stories also suitable for KS1 that will help explain and embed understanding about why International Earth Day is so critical in the global awareness calendar. You'll find these books below the video.

Thanks to Trocaire, this twelve page resource pack is ideal for early years learning. With visual aids to stir young minds and case studies that KS1 will be able to relate to, this curriculum-led pack explores the gifts Mother Earth delivers in a way that underpins Exploring and Thinking, Health and Wellbeing, Thinking and Development and The World Around Us.
Also for KS1, this new Earth Day PowerPoint from Twinkl is an ideal choice, as it encourages pupils to discuss the Reuse, Recycle, Replace concept and raises the discussion of how to look after our world post-pandemic. You could also consider sharing Earth Day Commitments Craft to encourage KS1 pupils to make 3 individual choices that will help protect the environment we all need to care for.
You'll find even more teaching resources at Twinkl.
