Coleraine College: Taking action on global warming

Location: Carthall Road, Coleraine, BT51 3LR

Entry Date: 04 April 2018

At the same time as the Paris Climate Change Conference took place in 2015 (COP21), Year 9 pupils at Coleraine College studied global warming, including its causes and effects. They were encouraged to investigate how humans contribute to global warming and to explore the global impact of this phenomenon.

Rather than simply learning from textbooks, pupils were asked to listen to the news coming out of the Paris climate summit.  They also wrote to the UK Prime Minister to urge action on global warming and were delighted to receive an official response back from 10 Downing Street.

After completing the topic, pupils had a much better understanding of how to engage in activism as a means to create positive change in the world.
