Strandtown Primary School – Wind farm debate

While studying natural disasters, pupils looked at wind power as an energy source. Given a hypothetical scenario of a wind farm development being built near the school, pupils took on different roles such as local resident, farmer, developer and politician. The class hosted a debating chamber, where pupils presented a range of viewpoints on the imaginary development, using critical thinking, research and reasoning skills. Through this activity, pupils reflected on their values, developed empathy and felt in charge of their learning.
Under the same theme, pupils also flexed their creative muscles and built models of ‘land yachts’ - special wind-powered vehicles that can be used for sailing on land.
